Musselburgh shows a clear low-draw advantage over five and seven furlongs. The right-handed course has tight bends and a short straight, which means low-drawn horses hug the rail into the home turn while high draws swing wide. Nottingham, Carlisle and Thirsk also show periodic draw bias, though it tends to be more condition-dependent — stronger on soft ground when one side of the track rides differently from the other.

Ascot’s straight course (five furlongs, six furlongs and a mile) does not have a consistent draw bias in normal conditions. Focus your draw analysis on the courses and distances where the data shows a genuine, repeatable effect, and ignore it everywhere else.

Does draw bias apply to National Hunt racing?

Generally no. National Hunt races start from a tape rather than stalls, and the longer distances (two miles minimum) give jockeys ample time to find their preferred position regardless of where they line up.
